Lindsay Butler’s Recollection

Lindsay Butler, Harold Williams, Norm Bodkin, Jeff Clapton,

My family and I first heard Buddy sing over radio on 2LM Lismore around 1941. I remember first seeing Buddy perform with the Gill Brothers travelling rodeo when it came to Tenterfield. Sometime in the mid 1940s I recall seeing hum perform in a tent with very small PA. I always think of the performance and the magic of him singing in the sawdust in the tent. I never forgot any of the songs he sang that night.

One of those songs was ‘Beneath The Queensland Moon’, it was always one of my favourite Buddy Williams Songs. I eventually recorded it as an instrumental on a Buddy tribute album I recorded of his songs.

I can say my three years of touring with Buddy and being his guitar player on those shows was one of my greatest memories. I am also very proud of being a co-producer with Gary Coxhead on his last album recorded at Hadley Studio in Tamworth. I have many great memories of Buddy as a performer and a bloke we remained great friends right till the end and we will never see another as dedicated to Australian Country Music as Buddy Williams!
